pattern pieces

This is my original pattern piece for my skirt it was a size twelve floor length skirt, I used this pattern create a mock skirt after seeing my mock skirt I decided that it wasn't quite what I wanted for my final garment so I changed the pattern.
1.5cm seam allowance
cut on the seam

second skirt pattern :Using the pattern above as a block I shortened the length, I made a mock skirt but decided that it wasn't what I wanted my skirt to look like so i changed my pattern.
1.5cm seam allowance
cut on the seam

third skirt pattern: This is the pattern I decided to use for my final garment , I used a block pattern for a pencil and dramatically shortened the length and added a large waistband and lined it. I really love the way the skirt turned out its exactly what I wanted my final garment to turn out.

Bandage samples

Before making my garments I had to sample the bandges and how well the dye or ink reacted with them ,I tryed many techniques from wetting the bandages or watering down the dye but dripping the dye onto the bandages proved to be the best way to get the dark and bloody effect that I was looking for, I used different coloured inks and dyes to help decide which colours worked best I found an orange dye that gave a great effect looking like blood once drying on the bandages.

I really love theses samples as they gave me a chance to explore something new and I really enjoyed discovering new ways to sample by myself.

Fab paint samples

During my exploration period I experimented with "fab paints" to create a number of different samples,
sample1&3&4:I used various colours of the fabric paint to create samples using wooden stamps, after I had finished with the stamps I placed the samples between two sheets of A4 paperand ironed until the paint was dry, once the paint is dry you can wash the fabric in 40 degree wash without the paint running and ruining the print.

I really like the stamp samples as they are quite pretty and delicate.

Is it our eyes that define our beauty ?

People often look into your eyes to see the emotions you are feeling but personally i believe they are the most beautiful part of the human form the way the sparkle and brighten when your happy or excited is fascinating, so for my research I took pictures of myself and my class mates eyes.

We are always trying to make ourselves appear more ascetically pleasing whether its changing our make up or dress style most commonly its our hair colour, for some research I took pictures of the hair colour of myself and some of my class mates showing the diversity in colour from ginger to blonde.

Tie dye samples

During my exploration stage I tried a range of different techniques including batik and tie-dye,

sample one: I dripped wax onto a piece of fabric to and dipped it into a green dye combining batik and tie-dying, I really love the way this sample turned  out as it creates a lovely effect and gives a much cleaner mark than tying the fabric.

samples 2,3,4,5: For these samples I used different tye-dying techniques such as tying, folding and scruching the fabric then placing in to the bowl for dye leaving each sample in for a different amount of time to view the effect it had on the fabric and technique

sample 2&3: I folded the piece of fabric in half and contiue folding, once Ive finished folding the fabric I secure the folds by tying a strand of string around the middle of the fabric and place into the dye for around 2 mintues before removing the fabric piece and running it under cold then hot water then leaving it to dry.

sample 4&5&6: I scruched and twisted the fabric into multiple knots before placing it into the dye for 4 minutes when i then removed the samples and ran them under hot and then cold wated before leaving them to dry.

sample 6: On this sample I used abit of fabric manipulation, using a craft knife I made a small cut in the middle of the fabric and began to fray the edges of the fabric to create a ripped ragged effect.

I really love the way all my samples have turned out they are all quite quirky and bright.

Project proposal

Project proposal : insecure by Chloe Davies

For this project I have chosen to look at insecurities which has lead me to research cosmetic surgery and the reasons behind our insecurities. To help me research insecurities I had a group of girls between the ages of 16 and 22 write down their insecurities and put them in a box this helped me understand the most common insecurities in young females after reading the lists I wrote my own insecurities down and placed them among the insecurities of my peers. During my research I interviewed one of my friends who will be having some surgery done to enhance certain aspects of her body this helped me understand her reasons and views on surgery.
I will research  into my starting point which is  a song title (“ugly girl” by 100 monkeys ) after researching the band I will move onto artists such as Karla black photographers such as la Chappelle and Rankin and designers such as Thierry mugler.
I will experiment with techniques such as tie-dye, fab painting, printing and dip dying (wet Techniques ) , I will experiment with the techniques so that I have a wide variety of choice when it comes to making my complete garments/ collection. I will work on these techniques in different weeks so I can focus on each type of technique and decide which techniques will be used whilst creating my garments.
I will analyse each piece of work with annotations and my own opinion on the process and how I thought it turned out as well as collecting the views of my class mates in a peer assessment. I will photograph and document my development on my blog page, at the end of the project I will write an evaluation.

Bum implants

The buttocks are an area of the body not easily enlarged or reshaped by weight training or diet. Individuals that wish to enlarge, lift, and shape the buttock mounds, have a variety of different size and shape buttock implants from which to choose.
WHAT DOES BUTTOCK IMPLANT SURGERY INVOLVE?

The method of inserting and positioning your implant will depend on your preferences, anatomy and your surgeon's recommendation. Placed into each buttock area through a single incision overlying the tailbone, buttock implants are positioned to look as natural as possible for the optimal cosmetic effect. A 2-3 inch incision is made between the buttocks in the midline.
The buttock muscle (gluteus maximus) is lifted up and a pocket is made just large enough for the implant. The implant is inserted into its pocket. The opposite side is then completed. Both sides are carefully examined in order to assure that the results look natural and symmetric. The incisions are then closed by using fine, dissolving sutures which will also be taped for better support.
HOW LONG DOES A BUTTOCK IMPLANT OPERATION TAKE?

Buttock Implant operations usually takes 1.5 hours to complete using a general anaesthetic and normally includes an overnight stay at the hospital. In certain circumstances it can be performed as a day case.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE SURGERY?

Your expectations need to be realistic. Most patients are pleased with the outcome and find they gain a feeling of increased self-confidence especially when wearing those more revealing clothes. The overall achievement will be having a completely natural look that compliments your figure and provides that J'Lo bum!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE RECOVERY PERIOD?

You will feel tired and sore for a few days and will have slight swelling and bruising which is only natural. Following the operation you will have a light dressing in place which will need to be kept dry for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks your dressing will be removed and the wound inspected and lightly cleaned. The scars will be firm and pink for at least six weeks and may remain the same size for several months and it is important to keep in mind that they may take up to 2 years to fade. You will have follow-up visits in the months after surgery to check on your progress.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME FROM BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION SURGERY?

This will depend on the individual patient however most patients are able to go back to work after a week or two. It is advisable not to do anything for 7-10 days. The average recovery time is between 3-6 weeks.

Nose job

A central feature, the nose determines the overall look of your face
Many people are unhappy with the size, shape and position of their nose, so if you are feeling this way you are not alone. The nose is the central feature of the face, how it looks can determine what the face looks like overall, whether this is because it is large and dominates the face, if it is crooked and makes you self conscious, or for any other reason. Nose reshaping surgery, also known as rhinoplasty or a 'nose job', is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed across the world, and as well as being requested for cosmetic reasons, it can also be used to correct breathing issues and to help alleviate the symptoms of sleep apnoea. Our surgeons can make your nose smaller, more prominent, slimmer, wider or smooth away unwanted lumps or bumps to help you to feel completely confident in your appearance.

BENEFITS OF HAVING NOSE RESHAPING SURGERY
Increased self-confidence from a new profile - patients often say they are happy to have photos taken of themselves with their new nose and new found confidence!
Increased self-esteem
Removal of a common cause of jibes and teasing
Option of changing hairstyle - often kept long prior to surgery to "disguise" perceived 'unwelcome' features
Harmony of appearance and correct the asymmetry of your facial features
THE PROCEDURE FOR NOSE RESHAPING SURGERY
Nose reshaping surgery is one of the oldest forms of cosmetic surgery and the surgical techniques have therefore been honed to perfection by our surgeons. The procedure differs depending on exactly what you are having done, but each method of rhinoplasty will leave either no scarring at all, or barely visible scars hidden well within the natural nostril creases. To alter the size or shape of the nose itself, your surgeon will make incisions inside the nose and alter the bone structure this way – your skin will shrink back to fit your new nose instantly and naturally.

If the surgery is to alter the size or shape of the tip of your nose, the surgeon will operate on the cartilage and remove or shape part of this to achieve the desired shape. Surgery to straighten the nose is called a septo-rhinoplasty and surgery to rebuild part of the nose is called augmentation rhinoplasty. Most nose reshaping surgery procedures take approximately two hours and are carried out under general anaesthetic – your surgeon will talk through the options and advise you on the most appropriate type of surgery.

Psychology of cosmetic surgery

Before the makeover, DeLisa Stiles--a therapist and captain in the Army Reserves--complained of looking too masculine. But on Fox's reality TV makeover show, "The Swan 2," she morphed into a beauty queen after a slew of plastic surgery procedures--a brow lift, lower eye lift, mid-face lift, fat transfer to her lips and cheek folds, laser treatments for aging skin, tummy tuck, breast lift, liposuction of her inner thighs and dental procedures. The Fox show gives contestants plastic surgery and then has them compete in a beauty pageant, which last year Stiles won.

Botox

Botox

OverviewPrices
Like Prozac and Viagra before it, Botox has become an established brand name in its own right and for good reason: because it just plain works.

While it may have made its name through celebrity use, Botox is an affordable treatment that anyone can access. Unlike some cosmetic medical treatments, it's suitable for virtually anyone who has wrinkles or other skin lines that they want to remove. This includes people who want to fight the signs of natural ageing, or those who've developed lines from exposure to the sun.

Botox Injections

Botox injections may sound like scientific wizardry, but they are a natural solution. The name comes from an entirely safe natural protein called Botulinum Toxin. Unlike some treatments that aim to pump up the skin or fill in the lines, Botox injections work by relaxing tight facial muscles, effectively helping the face stop frowning!

The procedure requires no anaesthetic as it is effectively painless: the worst you'll usually feel is a slight pricking sensation as the doctor applies the needle. It should take no more than a couple of weeks before the full effects take force, and once this is complete they will last for several months.

Generally there aren't any side effects bar occasional mild bruising, and other than avoiding strenuous exercise for a day or so, there isn't any need for a recovery period, so you can carry on your work and life uninterrupted.

Botox Before & After

When it comes to Botox, before and after photos tells an interesting story. The difference is clear: frown lines and crow’s feet will be heavily reduced if not completely eliminated. However, the treatment offered at reputable clinics will leave a natural (if younger) look rather than a plastic effect.

Contrary to some horror stories, Botox treatment won't leave you unable to show expression such as surprise or to frown when administered correctly! The only difference is that the frown lines won't be there when you don't want them.

“ The treatment has made a huge difference and I now feel so much better about myself when I look in the mirror. I have many friends complimenting me on how well I looked and asking if I had been on holiday. This is exactly the result I was after, a noticeably fresher look. ” — Victoria Prosser
Botox FAQs

Is it the right treatment for me?

Botox is the UK’s most popular cosmetic procedure, because it is suitable for almost everyone. If you have wrinkles or forehead lines you wish to reduce, then this treatment is likely to be the perfect option. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to ask your sk:n specialist.

What happens after treatment?

You can carry on with your day as normal immediately after leaving the clinic, although it’s important to avoid anything strenuous for 24 hours such as going to the gym. Side effects are rare, but occasionally some clients experience bruising, but this usually fades quickly.

Before you leave the clinic at the end of your treatment, we will book you in for a free check-up 2 weeks later, so that we can review the results of your treatment once it has taken full effect. We can also book your next appointment in 3-4 months times to ensure you maintain your new look!

Using high SPF sun cream to protect your skin from sun damage can keep your skin looking younger for longer.

Liposuction

An effective solution for Body Sculpting

For a lot of people losing weight, toning up and achieving the figure they want requires a combination of healthy eating and regular exercise, but some can be left with stubborn pockets of fat that no amount of exercise or dieting can shift. Liposuction surgery, also known as fat removal surgery, is designed to help remove these areas of fat and reshape particular areas of the body – it is not designed to be a quick weight loss tool. Typical problem areas that can be treated with liposuction surgery include:

Arms
Inner and Outer Thighs
Stomach (or Abdomen)
Hips
Buttocks
Knees
Chin
However, liposuction surgery can be performed on any area of the body and the technique is often used as part of other cosmetic surgery procedures such as the tummy tuck, breast reduction and male chest reduction.

You will need to book in for a consultation where a nurse will assess your BMI (body mass index) to ensure the procedure is suitable for you. If you are very overweight it is likely that you will not be suitable for liposuction as there are physical limits to the amount of fat that can safely be removed from the body. Liposuction is a procedure best suited for body sculpting rather than weight loss.

BENEFITS OF HAVING LIPOSUCTION SURGERY
Increased self confidence
Motivation to pursue a healthier lifestyle
Ability to have wider choice of clothes
Feel more in proportion
THE PROCEDURE FOR LIPOSUCTION SURGERY
Liposuction or fat removal surgery is performed either under general anaesthetic or under local anaesthetic with sedation, and is often treated as a day case, meaning you will not have to stay in hospital overnight. The procedure usually takes between one and two hours to complete depending on the area being treated and how much fat is being removed. Your surgeon will make a small incision in the area being treated before inserting a thin plastic tube called a cannula. The other end of this cannula is attached to a powerful vacuum device which removes the fat quickly and efficiently.

The Harley Medical Group are specialists in Cosmetic Surgery procedures, find out why you should choose them.

Face lift

Look as young as you feel

The visible signs of ageing such as lines and wrinkles, loose skin and brown spots, no longer have to be an inevitable part of getting old, and many people choose to reverse these signs with the help of face lift surgery and other surgical and non-surgical procedures. Face lift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, is one of the most commonly requested procedures by both men and women who want to look as young as they feel. It is performed to remove or reduce the skin that has lost its natural elasticity – usually around the eyes, mouth and jaw line – smooth the skin, reduce lines and wrinkles and rejuvenate a tired-looking appearance.

BENEFITS OF HAVING FACE LIFT SURGERY
Increased self-confidence and self-esteem
Looking younger
Feeling rejuvenated and fresher
Ability to wear clothes with lower necklines - no longer the need to hide behind a scarf / high-necked top
Easier application of make-up
THE PROCEDURE FOR FACE LIFT SURGERY
There are three main types of face lift surgery; traditional, minimal access cranial suspension (MACS) and keyhole surgery. Your surgeon will advise you on which method is most suitable and which will produce the best results – details of each procedure can be found below. For many people, combining a face lift with neck lift surgery ensures that the overall appearance is rejuvenated and patients who undergo this combination of procedures have reported looking 10 years younger.
Traditional face lift
A traditional face lift will involve your surgeon making a surgical incision along your hairline, down past the front of your ears and into the hairline behind the ears. Because of the careful positioning of the incision, your scarring will be hidden within the hair and natural creases of the face and it will fade quickly until it is barely visible. Once the incision has been made the surgeon will very carefully separate the skin from the underlying tissue, before repositioning excess fat and tightening facial muscles. The skin will then be lifted and stitched into place along the original incision and any excess skin removed.

Once the surgery is complete, your face will be wrapped in bandages to prevent infection and to support your face while the skin heals, but these will usually be removed the day before you are allowed to go home from hospital. Drains will also be stitched into place behind the ears to allow excess blood and fluids to drain from the area – these are sometimes left in for the first few days but this is decided on a case-by-case basis.

Minimal-access cranial suspension (MACS)
The main difference between this type of face lift surgery and the traditional method is that the incisions made are smaller and the tightening of facial muscles and removal of excess fat is done through these small surgical incisions. Excess fat can also be removed using this face lift procedure.
Keyhole surgery
If keyhole surgery is the right option for you, your surgeon will make several very small incisions into the skin on your face. Then he or she will feed a telescopic camera, called an endoscope, beneath the skin and the live image will be displayed on a monitor – it is from this that the surgeon can see exactly which muscles to tighten and how much excess fat to remove, if any. Keyhole surgery is most commonly used for brow lifts and upper face lifts and offers a short recovery time and will result in less scarring, but it is not suitable for everyone – please book a consultation with your surgeon to discuss the best option for you.

sigmund freud

Freud's story, like most people's stories, begins with others. In his case those others were his mentor and friend, Dr. Joseph Breuer, and Breuer's patient, called Anna O.
Anna O. was Joseph Breuer's patient from 1880 through 1882. Twenty one years old, Anna spent most of her time nursing her ailing father. She developed a bad cough that proved to have no physical basis. She developed some speech difficulties, then became mute, and then began speaking only in English, rather than her usual German.
When her father died she began to refuse food, and developed an unusual set of problems. She lost the feeling in her hands and feet, developed some paralysis, and began to have involuntary spasms. She also had visual hallucinations and tunnel vision. But when specialists were consulted, no physical causes for these problems could be found.
If all this weren't enough, she had fairy-tale fantasies, dramatic mood swings, and made several suicide attempts. Breuer's diagnosis was that she was suffering from what was then called hysteria (now called conversion disorder), which meant she had symptoms that appeared to be physical, but were not.
In the evenings, Anna would sink into states of what Breuer called "spontaneous hypnosis," or what Anna herself called "clouds." Breuer found that, during these trance-like states, she could explain her day-time fantasies and other experiences, and she felt better afterwards. Anna called these episodes "chimney sweeping" and "the talking cure."
Sometimes during "chimney sweeping," some emotional event was recalled that gave meaning to some particular symptom. The first example came soon after she had refused to drink for a while: She recalled seeing a woman drink from a glass that a dog had just drunk from. While recalling this, she experienced strong feelings of disgust...and then had a drink of water! In other words, her symptom -- an avoidance of water -- disappeared as soon as she remembered its root event, and experienced the strong emotion that would be appropriate to that event. Breuer called this catharsis, from the Greek word for cleansing.
It was eleven years later that Breuer and his assistant, Sigmund Freud, wrote a book on hysteria. In it they explained their theory: Every hysteria is the result of a traumatic experience, one that cannot be integrated into the person's understanding of the world. The emotions appropriate to the trauma are not expressed in any direct fashion, but do not simply evaporate: They express themselves in behaviors that in a weak, vague way offer a response to the trauma. These symptoms are, in other words, meaningful. When the client can be made aware of the meanings of his or her symptoms (through hypnosis, for example) then the unexpressed emotions are released and so no longer need to express themselves as symptoms. It is analogous to lancing a boil or draining an infection.
In this way, Anna got rid of symptom after symptom. But it must be noted that she needed Breuer to do this: Whenever she was in one of her hypnotic states, she had to feel his hands to make sure it was him before talking! And sadly, new problems continued to arise.

Street artists

Street art is art, specifically visual art, developed in public spaces — that is, "in the streets" — though the term usually refers to unsanctioned art, as opposed to government sponsored initiatives. The term can include traditional graffiti artwork, sculpture, stencil graffiti, sticker art, wheatpasting and street poster art, video projection, art intervention, guerrilla art, and street installations. Typically, the term street art or the more specific post-graffiti is used to distinguish contemporary public-space artwork from territorial graffiti, vandalism, and corporate art.

Artists have challenged art by situating it in non-art contexts. ‘Street’ artists do not aspire to change the definition of an artwork, but rather to question the existing environment with its own language. They attempt to have their work communicate with everyday people about socially relevant themes in ways that are informed by esthetic values without being imprisoned by them.John Fekner defines street art as “all art on the street that’s not graffiti.”

Visits doctors and my views on cosmetic surgery

During my fmp I've had to take a few trips to my doctor due to pain in my chest, I found it quite difficult to even have a female doctor examine my chest through my shirt never mind half naked I began to think people having cosmetic surgery aren't as weak as i thought they are brave and confident to be able to walk into and office and say I want this type of surgery to improve my looks they see what they believe is an error and have the motivation to change it, honestly I'm not a fan of cosmetic surgery but you have to admire the confidence it takes to get it done.

Fabric properties - bandages

When choosing fabric you have to check the properties and if the match those of the garment you plan on constructing

Durability- the bandages are very durable I researched this by wearing a bandage around my hand for a full college day and checking to the damage done before leaving the college premises, the bandage was still intact with only minor pulls in the thread

Elasticity- being a stretch bandage they had a lot of elasticity which worked well with fitting the curves of the body.

Sewing - sewing on the bandages was quite difficult but the end result looked just as I hoped.

Fabric properties - White cotton

When choosing fabric you have to check the properties and if the match those of the garment you plan on constructing,

Durability- the white cotton fabric I chose was very strong and difficult to fray and rip

Elasticity- the White cotton was very strong and didn't have much stretch which was perfect for me to construct a body fitting corset.

Sewing - the cotton was easy to sew on and worked really well with the machine.

Karl lagerfeld

In 1955, at the age of 22, Lagerfeld was awarded a position as an apprentice at Pierre Balmain after winning second place, behind Yves Saint-Laurent, in a competition for a coat sponsored by the International Wool Secretariat. He told a reporter a few years later, "I won on coats, but actually I like designing coats least of all. What I really love are little black dresses." Yves Saint Laurent also won the contest for a dress award. "Yves was working for Dior. Other young people I knew were working for Balenciaga (Spanish Basque fashion designer and the founder of the Balenciaga fashion house), whom they thought was God, but I wasn't so impressed," he recalled in 1976.

In 1958, after three years at Balmain, he moved to Jean Patou where he designed two haute couture collections a year for five years. His first collection was shown in a two-hour presentation in July 1958, but he used the name Roland Karl, rather than Karl Lagerfeld (although in 1962, reporters began referring to him as Karl Lagerfelt or Karl Logerfeld). The first collection was poorly received. Carrie Donovan wrote that "the press booed the collection". The UPI noted: "The firm's brand new designer, 25-year old Roland Karl, showed a collection which stressed shape and had no trace of last year's sack." The reporter went on to say that "A couple of short black cocktail dresses were cut so wide open at the front that even some of the women reporters gasped. Other cocktail and evening dresses feature low, low-cut backs." Most interestingly, Karl said that his design silhouette for the season was called by the letter "K" (for Karl), which was translated into a straight line in front, curved in at the waist in the back, with a low fullness to the skirt.

His skirts for the spring 1960 season were the shortest in Paris, and the collection was not well received. Carrie Donovan said it "looked like clever and immensely salable ready-to-wear, not couture." In his late 1960 collection he designed special little hats, pancake shaped circles of satin, which hung on the cheek. He called them "slaps in the face." Karl's collection were said to be well received, but not groundbreaking. "I became bored there, too, and I quit and tried to go back to school, but that didn't work, so I spent two years mostly on beaches – I guess I studied life."

Alexander McQueen

While on Savile Row, McQueen's clients included Mikhail Gorbachev and Prince Charles. At the age of 20 he spent a period of time working for Koji Tatsuno before travelling to Milan, Italy and working for Romeo Gigli.

McQueen returned to London in 1994 and applied to Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, to work as a pattern cutter tutor. Because of the strength of his portfolio he was persuaded by the Head of the Masters course to enroll in the course as a student. He received his masters degree in fashion design and his graduation collection was bought in its entirety by influential fashion stylist Isabella Blow, who was said to have persuaded McQueen to become known as Alexander (his middle name) when he subsequently launched his fashion career. It was shortly after creating his second collection,“McQueen's Theatre of Cruelty", that McQueen met Katy England, his soon to be "right hand woman",when outside of a "high profile fashion show" trying to "blag her way in".He promptly asked her to join him for his third collection, "The Birds" at Kings Cross, as "creative director".Katy England continued to work with McQueen thereafter, greatly influencing his work – his "second opinion".

Icelandic singer Björk sought McQueen's work for the cover of her album Homogenic in 1997.McQueen also directed the music video for her song "Alarm Call" from the same album.
